Delhi ‘will be transformed into a modern city’

Celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) thumping victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the party’s senior leadership and workers at the BJP’s national headquarters here.

Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which conceded defeat earlier in the day, he said, “AAP came with a promise to usher in politics of change but turned out to be the most dishonest party.”

The Prime Minister, who had addressed four election rallies in the national capital, congratulated the BJP, saying, “For the first time since Independence, the BJP will now have governments in Delhi and all adjoining States.”

Thanking voters for the mandate, he said, “People of Delhi today have enthusiasm and satisfaction. There is relief in liberating Delhi from ‘AAP-da’. I thank all Delhiites for entrusting their faith in Modi’s guarantee.”

He said that with the BJP in power, “Delhi will be transformed into a modern city.”

“Our focus will be on mobility, infrastructure, and providing new opportunities to the youth,” he said. He reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the Yamuna River.

In his rallies, Mr. Modi has been referring to the AAP government as an ‘AAP-da’ (disaster in Hindi). “Now Delhi’s double-engine government will ensure development at double speed. It is a historic win, not a usual victory, as the people of Delhi have shown the door to ‘AAP-da’. Delhi has become Aapda-mukt,” he said.
