Vijay’s party would eliminate ‘feudal lords’

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay said his party would eliminate “feudal lords” from politics in a democratic manner in 2026 Assembly elections.

Addressing an event organised to mark the commencement of second year of his party at a private resort in Poonjeri near Mamallapuram, Mr. Vijay said nowadays, politicians are becoming feudal lords, unlike in the past when only feudal lords entered politics. Without having any concerns about the welfare of people and national interest, they focus only on money, he said.

He said “Anyone can come to politics. But when a person who enjoys the love and support of people enters politics, a section would definitely feel annoyed, as they fear that their lies would be exposed. Out of confusion and frustration, those who are in power now, are trying to dismiss us,” Mr. Vijay said.

He said TVK is an emerging primary political force in Tamil Nadu politics with a firm commitment to create history in the 2026 Assembly election, like in 1967 [When DMK captured power] and 1977 [when AIADMK emerged victorious] Assembly elections in the State.

Responding to a criticism that only youngsters were appointed as party’s district-level office bearers, Mr. Vijay recollected that when former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran started the DMK and the AIADMK respectively, youngsters were duly rewarded. Because of the support of youngsters, the two leaders came to power, he said.
