Kia India begins shipping cars on double decker freight train

Carmaker Kia India began transporting SUVs on double-decker freight trains from the Penukonda railway station recently, a move expected to reduce the wait time for customers in various markets.
It is the first double-decker freight train to transport SUVs and is set to transform the automotive logistics sector by enhancing the efficiency of car transportation nationwide, significantly increasing the vehicle load capacity per train, the company said in a release. Sources said the SUVs, sent by the train, were meant for the National Capital Region (NCR) market.
With reduced transit times, the waiting period for our cars will decrease, allowing SUVs to be delivered to our customers faster.

The company, whose factory in the Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, has transported over 60,000 SUVs via the railway network to the country’s northern, eastern, and western regions.
The double-decker train can transport up to 264 cars instead of 100 cars that a conventional train.
