calls for independent probe into violence at Mahara Prison : Leader of Opposition

Although a committee headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Prison Reforms is appointed to probe the escalated violence at Mahara Prison, as stated by subject Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle, no such probe would be revealing the truth, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa emphasized, speaking at Parliament this (30) morning.Accordingly, the Opposition Leader has called for an independent commission to probe the incident.

Denoting that an immediate action should be taken in preventing the occurrence of Covid-19 cases in the Prison Sector in the future, Premadasa added that the government has a responsibility to provide health care to the people in prisons as well as anywhere else in the country.
