Indian envoy visits Palaly airport, holds key talks in Jaffna

COLOMBO: Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay visited the Palaly airport and took stock of infrastructural development carried out by India.

He also identified specific aspects which could be further undertaken by India through its development assistance program.

At the IPKF memorial, the high commissioner paid homage to Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in Sri Lanka.

The high commissioner visited the India Corner at the Jaffna Public Library and offered tribute to the late President Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam.

The library contains a rich collection of books on links between the region and India. It is a symbol of d efforts to preserve promote the rich and shared heritage.

The high commissioner visited the iconic Jaffna Cultural Center. comprising several facilities such as a floating stage, a public square, 11-story learning tower etc, this is one of its kind facility in Sri Lanka.

The state-of-the-art structure was built with Indian assistance of more than $11 million.

The high commissioner met with the new myor of Jaffna and other officials.

Ways to use the iconic structure for promoting culture and people-to-people ties with #India were explored.

The high commissioner also met Northern Province Governor P.S.M. Charles and other senior officials of the province.

Focus of the discussions was on cooperation for development of the Province through increased investment and assistance.
