GMOA says more staff should be deployed for vaccination process

COLOMBO: The Government Medical Officers’ Association said the COVID-19 vaccination process has been updated and the vaccines used in Sri Lanka are of a high standard.

GMOA Executive Committee member Dr. Prasad Colombage said more staff should be deployed for the vaccination process covering all parts of the country soon.

He said Health staff and the public should follow health guidelines as the new variant of COVID-19 is more contagious than the others.

Dr. Colombage stressed the importance of strictly following health guidelines as a patient develops the symptoms five days after contracting the virus. During this time, he can spread the virus to many persons one encounters, he said.

He said that several medical associations including the GMOA, Sri Lanka Medical Council and Specialist Doctor’s Association have in a letter to the President stressed the need of imposing travel restrictions in view of the present situation of the pandemic.

He also said that this letter has emphasized travel restrictions should be imposed in a scientific way.
