Ranil voices concerns relating to COVID-19 vaccines

COLOMBO: Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

In his statement, Wickremesinghe urged the government to focus on saving the lives of the people of this country. \

According to him, the already damaged economy can be repaired, but the damage caused to life cannot be repaired.

“The continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic is a fatal blow to the already weakened economy. Therefore, it is necessary to stop the spread of the diseases and save lives. If that is done, we can minimize the economic damage,” he said.

He highlighted that the Colombo office of the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement following discussions with a number of medical experts in the country and resulting predictions indicate that the COVID-19 virus will spread rapidly in the country in the next few weeks.

Wickremesinghe also expressed concerns relating to vaccines.

“We must remember that there is a shortage of vaccines in our country. It may be the end of this year or even next year for all the people of Sri Lanka to be vaccinated. Until then the people of the country must be protected,” he said.

He also urged the government to take further steps in accordance with medical advice and that if doctors advise to lockdown the country, it should be acted upon.

According to him, this will allow the authorities to analyse weekly reports to understand the spread of the virus.
