Health authorities request to lockdown country for 4-weeks

Health authorities have requested the Government to impose a quarantine curfew for a minimum of 04-weeks in order to curtail the rapidly spreading coronavirus in Sri Lanka at present.

Health sector sources said the health authorities have pointed out that it was essential to impose a curfew due to the increase in Covid patients and Covid related deaths, which the health sector is unable to cope with currently.

The daily number of Covid patients has reached nearly 3000 and the death toll has reached nearly 100 per day respectively.

Close to 1000 deaths due to the coronavirus have been reported in the last 13 days.

The mortuaries of hospitals are overflowing with the bodies of Covid victims, while there is an influx of Covid patients at the general wards of the hospitals as well, they pointed out.

The health authorities further said that the continuous increase in Covid patients will not be able to be contained, due to which necessary measures must be implemented to curtail the situation and reduce the infection rate.
