Jaffna devotees disregard quarantine curfew, police say

COLOMBO: Police have prevented a large group of devotees from entering Jaffna’s Nallur Kandaswamy temple to organize the annual chariot festival of the temple

The devotees had tried to enter the Kovil, violating the current quarantine curfew. A team of about 300 police officers had been deployed to prevent the gathering on Sunday.

Due to this the festival at the Nallur Kovil was limited to a Pooja conducted by the Kurukkals without the participation of devotees.

When a large number of people came to attend the Kovil ceremony, police warned them, but when they tried to enter the temple without heeding health guidelines, police were compelled to use buses and roadblocks to cover all the entrances to the temple.
