Birth anniversary of former President Abdul Kalam observed in Jaffna

COLOMBO: As a part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 90th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former president of India, was celebrated following the COVID-19 guidelines.

Consul General Raakesh Natraj paid floral tributes to his busts at the India Corner, Jaffna Public Library.

Northern Provincial Council Chairman Mr. C V K Sivagnanam, Mayor of Jaffna V. Manivannan, Jaffna Municipal Commissioner similarly garlanded the busts of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and paid him floral tributes.

Consulate officials, the Chief Librarian, officials and patrons of the Library also paid him floral tributes.

The Consul General in his introductory remarks, remembered scientific contributions of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The diplomat highlighted his ideas, innovations that have changed the Indian Space sector and how his teaching methods continues to ignite young minds across the world. Students at the India Corner recited poems of Dr. Abdul Kalam on the occasion.
