Sri Lanka MPs to debate ‘contemporary health concern’

COLOMBO: A motion at Sri Lanka Parliament’s adjournment time regarding the ‘contemporary health concern’ by the government will be taken up on Oct. 22 from 10 am to 4.30 pm, it was reported on Friday.

The government’s official news portal also announced that the Committee on Parliamentary Business had decided to continue sittings of Parliament. T

The committee came into this decision at the meeting chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Thursday.

Accordingly, Parliament will convene as usual from Oct. 20.

It was decided to take three regulations under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act in to debate on OCt. 20
followed by the adjournment motion by the government which will be taken up for debate from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Regulations under the Medical Ordinance will be taken up for debate on Oct. 21. The adjournment debate by the will be taken up for debate from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Meanwhile, given that the Speaker announces the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the 20 th Amendment to Parliament on the October 20 th, the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided to meet again to make the necessary changes to the order paper to accommodate the debate on the 20th Amendment.

Members Dinesh Gunawardena, the Leader of the House of Parliament, Johnston Fernando, the Chief Government Whip, Lakshman Kiriella, Chief Opposition Whip, Chamal Rajapaksa, Douglas Devananda, Dullas Alahapperuma, Gayantha Karunatilleka, nura Dissanayaka, M. A. Sumanthiran, Rishad Bathiudeen, G. L. Peiris, Deputy Secretary General and Chief of Staff Neil Iddawala were present at the meeting.
