Veteran singer Desmond De Silva passes away (Video)

Veteran singer and entertainer par excellence Desmond De Silva passed away in Melbourne, Australia today (09).

At the time of his demise, De Silva was 77 years old.

‘Des’, as he was lovingly referred to by his fans and friends, launched his career in Colombo in 1963, as the lead vocalist of the Fire-Flies.

His music was featured widely on Radio Ceylon and subsequently the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, the oldest radio station in South Asia.

Des also performed with leading Sri Lankan pop groups before forming his own band “Desmond and the Clan” in 1976.

De Silva’s music and easy going nature inspired many generations of local musicians through which his musical legacy will live on for decades to come.
