Ranil: ‘Look at policies and not at individuals’

COLOMBO: United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the country is heading toward a point where even a future government will not be able to rebuild the country and ensure its recovery.

He also said that the country will not be able to recover without a permanent policy that will not change even if the government changes.

He added that the UNP has already presented a set of policies for this purpose.

He said that not only the two main political parties but everyone in the political arena was responsible for the current situation in the country.

He pointed out that those in parliament as well as the clergy and journalists, including trade unions, civil society organizations, the Maha Sangha, who are pressuring, agitating and engaging in strikes, are responsible for bringing them to power are also responsible.

Wickremasinghe emphasized that the country could not be rebuilt by changing faces and that in order to do so, a new framework with a national policy that would not change even if the Parties and faces change, would have to be adopted.

He said that the people of the country should look at the policies and not the individuals and that it could be done by the media.

UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara and Chairman Vajira Abeywardena were also present.
