Minister Douglas Devananda allays concerns about 13A
Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Minister and Jaffna MP Douglas Devananda has ruled out any threat to the 13th amendment to the Constitution.
He said some elements were spreading false information on this issue with the aim of discrediting the new government.
The minister’s remarks came as the Cabinet granted approval on Wednesday to abolish the 19th amendment to the constitution and replace it with the 20th amendment.
Devananda also said that some political forces were trying gain mileage by spreading rumors about 13th Amendment with the ulterior motive of creating a wrong impression about the Sri Lankan government among the Tamil people.
The minister said Tamils need not get alarmed by such baseless reports against the 13th Amendment, adding that the government has so far no plans to meddle with it.
