Indian envoy in Sri Lanka congratulates Tamil National Alliance on election victory
Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay has congratulated Sri Lanka’s Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for their performance at this month’s parliamentary elections during a meeting in Colombo..
The envoy “reiterated India’s longstanding position on peace and reconciliation and full implementation of the 13th Amendment,” the High Commission said in a Twitter post on Friday.
A TNA statement said the alliance’s delegation comprised party leader R. Sampanthan, Mavai Senathirajah, Dharmalingam Siddharthan, Selvam Adaikkalanathan and M. A. Sumanthiran.
The meeting took place from 5:30pm to 7pm and matters of concern to the Tamil people particularly after the recent elections were discussed, the TNA added in its statement.
The envoy “assured India’s continuing commitments to finding a resolution to the Tamil national question in Sri Lanka,” it said.
